How To Install Windows Desktop Software

Due to the nature of many of the programs we write for the Windows platform they are not suitable candidates for the Microsoft Store. To ensure the program you receive from us is the program we have written we do digitally sign all our desktop software but I’m aware that some newer Windows users have no idea how to install traditional Windows software. With that in mind here is the basic guide.

Installing Traditional Windows Desktop Software

To complete the installation of any of your traditional Windows desktop applications you will need to have administrator rights on the computer you wish to install them on. Once installed any user can then use the software.

  1. Your first step is to download the software from our website by following the download link on the relevant software page.
  2. All our downloads are packaged as ZIP files, all modern versions of Windows have built in support for ZIP so double clicking the file you downloaded will open it as if it was a folder.
  3. Within the ZIP file/folder you will see a number of files. Depending on the individual program it will be a license file, a readme file and in all cases the actual program installer.
  4. Double click the program installer, this will start the installation process which is a simple step-by-step guided dialog process. You may be asked to confirm you wish to install for security reasons, if this happens you should see SMTP Software Ltd as the digitally signed software author and are good to proceed.
  5. When this has finished congratulations are in order, you have now installed our software on your computer.
  6. You can run the recently installed software by using the Windows Start Menu, any new programs should be right at the top under “Recently Added”. Alternatively look for the programs folder, these are listed alphabetically by default (for example Easy Email Forwarding can be found in the Easy Email Forwarding folder under the letter E).

Uninstalling Traditional Windows Desktop Software

To uninstall software you will also need administrator rights.

  1. All software can be removed by using the Start Menu – Settings option.
  2. Click on the Apps option from the Settings windows that appears.
  3. Find our program in the list of applications and then click the Uninstall button.
  4. You will be guided through a similar set of dialog windows as the installer to remove the software and any lingering files.
  5. Alternatively some programs add the uninstall option to the Start button menu itself, in this case you can follow the steps below.
  6. Click the Start Button and find the programs folder from the alphabetical list (i.e. for Easy Email Forwarding the folder is called Easy Email Forwarding under the letter E).
  7. Click the Uninstall button from within the folder, this will start the uninstallation process and you’ll be guided through a set of dialog windows the same as above.

All of our traditional Windows desktop software is fully compatible with the processes Microsoft has put in place for installation/uninstallation.
